New England sports teams keep winning. And they keep winning on other stations. How do you harness the energy and excitement of a championship when the game isn’t on your channel? By participating with the viewers relishing another banner year in Boston.
24 hours before the Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup victory parade, I conceived of a sharable image of all of Boston’s championship banners. In short time, I put together a promo and had a designer whip together a simple ‘printable’ image. It was a great success. The banner image started showing up all over Boston- even framed in bars.
When the Red Sox won in 2013, we established the WCVB tradition of doing this campaign for each Boston champion. A legacy that’s been often ripped off (just check Reddit for knock-offs).

The sharable image was created to fit on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.
When the Sox won in 2013- the tradition was established. This image and the following earned Best Use of Digital Media Merit Award from the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association.
